Episode 42 – The Strain!

Skinner and I are joined by Andrew of the Thin White Dudes Talking About Bowie podcast to talk about our favorite(?) new show, FX’s The Strain.

Look, this show has all the earmarks of something I’d love in a television show. Outbreaks, Vampires, corruption, Nazis, Marilyn Manson wannabees…but it’s hopelessly bogged down with bad pacing, spending way too much time on custody battles and secret cabals than it does on action and development.

And we need to talk about this.

Corey Stoll is naturally bald. Corey Stoll owns that shit. He is super, super sexy. So why is the scariest thing on this show his hairpiece? It baffles me. And speaking of questionable hair & makeup…

This was the moment when you lost me, The Strain. I read the books, so I knew it was going to happen, but it’s entirely too….clean. Also, what.

There are things about this show I’ve enjoyed. I like trying to understand WTF Kevin Durand’s character is mumbling. I like David Bradley being all “DUMBLEDORE WHO, BITCHES” and a total badass. I enjoy Sean Astin’s adorable business casual.

But overall I can’t say that this is a show I’ll finish, seek out, or ultimately look favorably on. I enjoy a good thriller as much as the next person, but is this a face you can be terrified of?

Know who was a scarier looking master? This Guy.
